The Value Methodology Associate (VMA) certification recognizes those individuals who decided to become professional value engineers, but who have not yet acquired all the experience or technical skills expected of a Certified Value Specialist (CVS).

Becoming Certified

VMA certification requires the following from each candidate:

  • Certification application
  • Payment of the appropriate application fee
  • Copy of their Module I certificate of completion
  • Completed certification exam

If the candidate fails one or both portions of the exam for VMA certification, then SAVE allows that person to retest up to two times within 12 months of the original exam date without penalty.

VMA certification does not require recertification; however, it does require an annual fee of $50 USD for SAVE members or $500 USD for non-members. In addition, there is a continuing education requirement of 8 hours bi-annually. The continuing education requirement represents the beginning of a new focus on continuous education for all SAVE International certifications.

Application

Individuals with a current or recently expired AVS certification can transfer to the VMA certification by completing the online VMA application and paying the appropriate application fee ($50 USD for SAVE members or $500 USD for non-members). You do not need to retake the exam. Once your VMA application and payment are processed, your SAVE database profile will be updated.

Please Note: As of June 2016, SAVE has discontinued issuance of the Associate Value Specialist (AVS) certification. As AVS certificate holders approach their expiration date, they are encouraged to transfer to the new VMA certification. Those AVS who have not transferred to the VMA certification by 2020 will be required to complete a new application for the VMA certification. Those who do not wish to transfer to a VMA certification should prepare to apply for CVS certification.
