Enhancing Ideas and Enhancing Careers through Certification
SAVE International®’s Certification Program is the industry standard for recognizing competence in the practice of the Value Methodology (VM). SAVE offers two levels of certification:
The highest level is the Certified Value Specialist (CVS), which is recognition of the individual who has met all certification requirements, both technical and experience, and whose principal career is value engineering.

The Value Methodology Associate (VMA) recognizes those individuals who decided to become professional value engineers, but who have not yet acquired all the experience or technical skills expected of a CVS.

Certification Program Changes
Per the Certification Board’s decision at their June 2015 meeting, SAVE has ceased issuance of all new CVS-Life and Value Methodology Practitioner (VMP) certification designations.
In addition, as of June 2016, SAVE has discontinued issuance of the Associate Value Specialist (AVS) certification. As AVS certificate holders approach their expiration date, they are encouraged to transfer to the new VMA certification. Those AVS who have not transferred to the VMA certification by 2020 will be required to complete a new application for the VMA certification. Those who do not wish to transfer to a VMA certification should prepare to apply for CVS certification.
Who Administers the Program?
The SAVE Certification Program is administered by Certified Value Specialists appointed by the SAVE Board of Directors for two-year terms. All attempts are made to have the board represent a cross section of the society and applications, including industry, government and construction and members from both internal programs and consultants.
It must be emphasized that the certification program is designed for those utilizing the value disciplines in their principal career. It is not an honors program - the society has a separate program to honor deserving individuals and organizations. Certification must be earned by completing all criteria and requirements and is for individual recognition and may not be transferred or used to imply that an organization or association is certified.
The SAVE Certification Board also maintains a cooperative certification program with the following international organizations, whereby they meet all SAVE requirements as a minimum but also adapt the overall requirements for their own culture:
