The SAVE International® Business Office (SBO) is working hard to ensure your investment pays dividends. This new column will be a regular feature of Interactions and will provide members with an update of happenings at the SAVE International® headquarters. You are encouraged to write, email, call, fax or stop by if additional information is needed or if you just need someone to bounce an idea around. Don't hesitate to contact us with questions regarding the Society or the profession. If we don't know the answer, we will find a solution.

    The Board of Directors recently voted to make SAVE publications, including Interactions and the VE Globe available on the public portion of the SAVE website. Interactions and the VE Globe can be found at the SAVE website by following http://www.value-eng.org/catalog_newsletter.php. This will help get our message out to those who need it most.

    For those trying to find information about SAVE's Certification Program, we have made it a bit easier - log on to www.value-eng.org and Certification now has its own tab!

    Members are encouraged to visit the SAVE Bookstore and browse through the videotapes, books, CDs, proceedings and merchandise available. All orders are immediately shipped for your convenience and overnight and second day service is available.

  • Value Team Member Listing
    If you have not signed up, do so today! The SAVE Value Team Member Listing is comprised of team members from around the globe in a searchable format. Substantial discounts are available to SAVE International® members. Different levels of listings are available, depending on your needs.

    Dues invoices for those members due in September, October and November have been sent. Renewal can be done by mail, telephone or on-line for convenience. The SAVE International® Director of Standards and Resources is:

If you answered no to all the answers, then please advance to the head of the class.

Actually, the little known Director of Standards and Resources is a SAVE International® Director that reports to the Executive Vice President for a concurrent one-year term. The Director is appointed by the Executive Vice President and is approved by the SAVE Board of Directors.

Now to the real core question? What do you think the functions of the Director are? If you thought of such functions as Preserve Standard, Guard Standard, or Protect Standard then you are on the right track. Actually, the director has several official functions: Establish Standards, Maintain Standards, Support Resources and Review Materials. The Functions and Responsibilities (F&Rs) of the Director are as follows:

Director - Standards and Resources

Basic Function:

  • Establish and maintain uniform and recognized standards for the Value Management profession
  • Support the archives, resource, and reference center.
  • Review materials for publication.

Reports to: Executive Vice President
Reported to by: Committee Members, as required
Term of Office: One Year, concurrent with Executive Vice President
Appointed by: Executive Vice President (with Board Approval)


Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead role to evaluate the Value Engineering profession's standards so that they are recognized and accepted by the technical community
  • Maintain and improve on the existing national Value Management standards
  • Seek out, collect, and digest information and opinion from all possible sources, including International Affiliates, regarding improving standards
  • Make SAVE standards visible to SAVE membership by publishing timely technical notes and articles
  • Review and certify, at the request of the SBO, SAVE committees, Lawrence D. Miles Value Foundation, SAVE Certification Board, or private authors that papers, book, video tapes, and other media are in conformance with SAVE International® standards
  • Support and maintain the security of SAVE International® technical resources at the SBO and other locations
  • Coordinate and submit an annual plan of goals and activities to the Executive Vice President prior to the Annual Conference, one month after appointment or as directed
  • Prepare and submit written summary report of activities and status to the Executive Vice President at least two weeks prior to each board of directors meeting
  • Maintain records of office activities and pass on to successor
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary

    • Must be a member in good standing.
