SAVE International is pleased to sponsor a competition for all universities that offer semester courses on value engineering, value analysis or value management (VM). This course may be in any discipline including engineering, architecture, management or general sciences.

The purpose of this competition is to recognize the student(s) and the university for your value work. SAVE encourages universities to offer semester courses in VM and hopes that this competition will bring visibility to your programs within your university and throughout SAVE’s global reach.

The winning student or student team will receive up to $1,000 towards travel expenses to the 2017 SAVE Value Summit in Philadelphia, PA being held August 27-30, 2017. The winner will give a 20 minute presentation at the Summit, and will be presented with an award at the Awards Banquet.

We encourage you to nominate your best student value study by notifying Dr. Stephen J. Kirk, Vice President Education, by May 15, 2017 of your intent to submit a student value study by the deadline of July 1, 2017. Please send your notification to Steve Kirk at

Judging of submittals will be based on the information provided in the report, use of the value methodology and the quality of the written report in communicating the process and results. The SAVE evaluation jury will consist of the Executive Vice President, Vice President Conferences, Chairman of the Miles Value Foundation and the SAVE Certification Board Chairman. Should a tie occur, the SAVE President will make the final selection.

Student or student team value studies will be submitted by the course instructor to SAVE by July 1, 2017. Each university may submit only one value study prepared by an individual student or student team. Value Study Reports are to identify:

  • the study topic,
  • the participants,
  • the VM process followed,
  • techniques used including function analysis, and
  • the study results.

The study will be no more than fifteen (15) 8.5” x 11” pages including figures. Please email reports in one PDF file to Melissa Baldwin, SAVE Program Manager, at
