Last June, the SAVE International® Certification Board announced that the use of Life designation would expire under the new ANSI aligned certification program. At the January 2017 SAVE Certification Board meeting, new information was provided to the Certification Board regarding ANSI alignment and the use of titles and certifications.

Based on this new information, the SAVE Certification Board changed the previous decision. The use of the Life designation will not be discontinued. It remains for those who have already received the designation and will be subject to the conditions of the new certification program.

The Certified Value Specialist® (CVS) Life designation may be used only by individuals who were granted their CVS-Life prior to June 30, 2015 and continue to renew their CVS-Life designation. CVS-Life is defined as “a designation of SAVE International granted upon request prior to June 30, 2015, when a CVS had completed three (3) recertification cycles.”

Beginning September 1, 2017, to continue use of the CVS-Life designation, the individual will need to pay the annual maintenance fee and acquire 40 hours of acceptable Professional Development Hours every two years.

Looking forward, the SAVE Certification Board is planning to initiate a competency based senior designation. This designation would be competency based, not time based as is Life. This competency based senior designation will be made available to all CVS’s who meet the established requirements. This new senior designation will not be available until 2018 or 2019.
