Naval Surface Warfare Center
Port Hueneme Division
When the original manufacturer ceased production on replacement parts, the fire control systems on board Aegis cruisers and destroyers were in jeopardy.
Using a value engineering approach, the team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division, developed a reconditioning process that avoids $2 million in fabrication costs and ensures the equipment lasts for the entire hull-life of a ship.
Their value-based thinking resulted in a $28 million cost avoidance for fiscal 2013 and won the team the DoD Fiscal 2012 Value Engineering Achievement Award.
SAVE International® is the premier international society devoted to the advancement and promotion of value engineering. VE benefits include decreasing costs, increasing profits, improving performance and improving quality.
