Conference Details

SAVE International's 48th Annual Conference will take place at the Silver Legacy Resort in Reno, Nevada USA, from June 9 - 12, 2008. Take note of the new conference program schedule (PowerPoint) . The President's Reception will be held at the National Automobile Museum. Check out the alternative evening event and spouses program.

Fun, Fun, Fun: Our Conference Destination

SAVE International®’s 2008 Annual Conference will be held in Reno, Nevada USA, known as “America’s Adventure Place.”

Beginning, in 1928, as “The Biggest Little City in the World” and populated by a somewhat notorious citizenry, Reno has grown to become a destination place offering an exciting variety of indoor and outdoor attractions an activities. From casinos and shows to barbeque cook-offs and balloon races to skiing and golf, Reno combines recreation and leisure into a comprehensive, budget friendly package everyone will enjoy. Of particular interest are the National Automobile Museum where the President’s Reception will be held, the Rancho San Rafael Park with its wide open spaces, and gorgeous Lake Tahoe for water sports, skiing, hiking, golf, and simply enjoying the spectacular natural surroundings that frame the area.

Traveling to Reno

If you are traveling by airplane, follow the hyperlink for the list of airlines that serve the Reno Tahoe International Airport. The Silver Legacy Resort has a complimentary shuttle service that runs at the quarter after and quarter ‘till the hour to transport visitors between the airport and the hotel.

Customs Information

Conference attendees who are not U.S. citizens will be required to show evidence of their country of residence. This is most easily accomplished with a passport. Citizens of some countries must obtain a temporary visa to enter the United States of America. Visitors should ask about visa requirements and valid travel documents at the American embassy, consulate, or mission in their home countries before departing.

If you are traveling with a child (17 years of age or younger), you should carry:

  1. identification, similar to that mentioned above, for each child;
  2. a letter of permission from the child’s parent or legal guardian when traveling with a child who is not legally your own; and,
  3. copies of legal documents regarding custody rights if you share custody.
Where It All Happens: The Silver Legacy Resort

The Silver Legacy Resort feeds your hunger for adventure, luxury, excitement, and fun. The hotel features a European style health spa with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, whirlpools, steam rooms, and full massage therapy. It features a styling salon where facials, manicures, and other personal services pamper clients. As part of a tri-property complex including the Eldorado and Circus Circus, the Silver Legacy is home to 22 extraordinary dining venues that range from casual to formal. After a day of exploring the area attractions, there’s nothing dinner and a show to round out your day. The Silver Legacy hosts music and comedy headliners.

Making Hotel Reservations

SAVE International® has negotiated fabulous room rates for our conference attendees. The Silver Legacy offers SAVE International® 2008 Conference attendees deluxe rooms for only $109 per night, plus taxes. All rates are subject to a $3.00 per room, per night resort fee which covers guests’ round trip shuttle to the airport, covered valet and self-parking, and unlimited local phone calls. Government attendees will receive the government per diem rate current at the time of check-in.

Conference attendees are responsible for their own travel and lodging arrangements. To reserve a room at the Silver Legacy Resort at the group discount, call (800) 687-8733 (USA and Canada only) or (775) 325-7333. Be sure to request the group code of SAVE08 in order to receive the discounted rate.

Government Per Diem Reservations

The Silver Legacy will only accept government per diem room reservations from the SAVE International® Business Office. Government employees attending the SAVE International® 2008 Annual Conference must submit their room reservations through the society’s business office. Please call (937) 224-7283 or email your request to info@value-eng.org.

Cut-off Date

No discount room reservations will be accepted by the Silver Legacy Resort or the SAVE International® Business Office after May 7, 2008.

Hotel Check-in/Check-out

Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and check-out time is 11:00 a.m. If rooms are requested prior to check-in time, the hotel will make a reasonable effort to accommodate specific requests based upon availability. Early arrivals may store their luggage at the bell desk until check-in time.

Payment Procedures

Hotel guests are directly responsible for submitting a first night’s deposit by cash or credit card to the hotel at the time they make their reservations. (Government per diem reservations are exempted.) Should the deposit not be received at least 14 days prior to arrival, the room reservation will be canceled.

Conference attendees are responsible for their own guestroom charges, taxes, resort fees, and incidental charges.

Hotel Cancellations

The Silver Legacy allows individual attendees to right to cancel their guest room reservations without penalty up to 24 hours prior to each attendee’s scheduled arrival date. The Silver Legacy shall charge the individual attendee’s credit card one night’s room and tax for cancellation within 24 hours of the scheduled arrival date or for failure of the individual to check in on the scheduled arrival date. Any remaining nights of a “no show” reservation will be automatically canceled.

Conference Attendee Benefits

Full registration to the SAVE International® Annual Conference includes a copy of the conference proceedings; admission to the President’s Reception, awards banquet, and attendee meals and refreshment breaks; and admission to conference technical sessions and forums and exhibits.

Guests

Are you bringing a guest to the conference? Guests may accompany attendees to the technical sessions; however, separate admission tickets must be purchased if your guest wishes to accompany you to the President’s Reception, awards banquet, or other optional event.

Special Meal Requests

The Silver Legacy will make every reasonable attempt to accommodate dietary restrictions when plated meals are served. If you have diabetic, vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or other special dietary requirement, please notify in writing the SAVE International® Business Office no later than May 7, 2008.

Special Assistance

SAVE International® will be pleased to assist you with any special needs. Conference attendees requiring special assistance are asked to notify the business office in writing prior to May 7, 2008, so that their needs may be properly accommodated.

Conference Registration & Payment

Register early and save! SAVE International® offers an “early bird” discount on conference registrations received by the business office before closing on Friday, April 4, 2008. Registrations received afterward will not be discounted. Those who register online may check the option to have their credit card payments held until May 27, 2008.

Payment must accompany all conference and workshop registrations before they will be processed. SAVE International® accepts payment via cash, check, credit card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express), or wire transfer. Payment must be in United States currency and checks must be made payable to SAVE International®.

Your name must appear on the payment to receive acknowledgement for a bank deposit or wire transfer. If your name does not appear on the payment, you will not be registered for the conference or any workshops.

Conference and workshop registrations are generally processed within two business days of receipt by the business office. Should your check bounce or credit card payment be declined for any reason, your registration will be canceled immediately and the business office will attempt to notify you.

Confirmation of Registration

The business office will send written receipts for conference and workshop registrations upon request.

SAVE International®’s web server will automatically confirm the successful submission of conference and workshop registrations made online. If you register for the conference online and do not receive this electronic confirmation, then your registration was not successful. Please try again.

SAVE International® asks that you remember no electronic or postal delivery process is infallible. Glitches in technology and lost mail unfortunately may cause some registrations to not be received by the business office. To confirm the receipt of your conference registration, please contact the business office at (937) 224-7283 or at info@value-eng.org.

Registration Cancellation and Refund Policy

Conference, workshop, and other event cancellations must be received in writing to be eligible for a refund. SAVE International® assesses a $75.00 cancellation fee against all conference and workshop registrations canceled before Friday, May 2, 2008. No refunds will be given for any cancellations received after May 2, 2008.

Program Cancellations

In the event of a programmatic cancellation involving a workshop or other optional event, SAVE International® will refund the registration fee for that particular event. Program cancellations will be posted on the society’s conference details web page.

Climate

The Reno-Tahoe area is high desert with four distinct seasons. June is typically warm and arid with cool nights. Please remember that the hotel meeting rooms may be air conditioned and quite cool, so you may wish to bring a sweater or jacket.

Dress Code

Business casual attire (shirt, slacks for men; skirt or slacks for women) is recommended for conference sessions, workshops, and the President’s Reception. Attire for the awards banquet is generally more formal.

Conference Program

SAVE International® revised the schedule so conference attendees would not have to use additional leave for travel days during the work week. Please note the following schedule changes:

  1. Pre-conference workshops are scheduled for Sunday and Monday (June 8 – 9)
  2. The Module I workshop will begin on Saturday (June 7)
  3. The President’s Reception will be on Monday evening (June 9)
  4. The technical sessions will be held Tuesday through Thursday (June 10 – 12)
  5. The Module II will be held from June 7 through 9.
  6. Both Module I and II courses will conclude on Thursday (June 12)
  7. The Government VM Conference will be held Friday (June 13)
